Visit Biddenden with its wealth of medieval and 17th century buildings or take a look at 15th century Chilham with its castle, church and pub, set around a central village square. Follow Charing's village trail to discover the former Archbishop's Palace, explore Smarden which boasts more than 100 listed buildings, or visit Pluckley, reputedly Kent's most haunted village.
Steam enthusiasts should head to Tenterden for a nostalgic trip on the Kent & East Sussex Railway. Full-gauge trains take visitors to Bodiam Castle, a perfectly preserved medieval castle.Visitors can soak up the atmosphere of Pa Larkin's 'Darling Buds of May' countryside, make friends with the animals at the South of England Rare Breeds Centre, or sample the fine wines and ciders at Biddenden Vineyard and at the Chapel Down Winery near Tenterden.
Garden lovers are in for a special treat. Godinton House, a splendid Jacobean country mansion, boasts a fine collection of porcelain and a wealth of carved panelling, and has formal gardens with topiary, a 1920s Italian Garden and wild gardens. Beech Court Gardens, with its all year round colour, is a garden for all season, while Great Dixter is known as the 'ultimate English garden' with its sunken gardens and famous 'Long Border'.
A fascinating collection of Morgan three wheelers are to be found in Rolvenden and theatre lovers will marvel at the array of theatrical memorabilia on display at Smallhythe Place, the former home of the Shakespearean actress Dame Ellen Terry.
